If you want to improve your health and your body, develop some rituals. In the absence of positive health rituals, we will fill the vacuum with the things that got us to this sad place. Research is showing the limits of willpower when it comes to fat loss strategies. It’s not enough to stop the donuts and the soda. What is going to take their place? Too many diets are about deprivation and the absence of something. Alcohol and fast food have become a negative ritual for many.
Why not start the day with a 16oz. glass of ice water? Your bowels and brain will thank you. Why not keep a food journal? There’s no need to make any judgments on the entries. Just ask yourself, based on what’s being noted, are you getting closer or farther away from your fat loss goals? Again, its about awareness and not judgment.
How about sitting down with the family for dinner 3x/week (minimum) for a ritual?
Turn these things into what are known as “keystone habits.” They are not big additions but they can bring about global changes.
The rituals we develop are an expression of our values. Take a look at one of our clients, Elif Kavakci. She talks here about the roles she plays and the things she values – two of these are her health and strength.
What you spend your time and money on say a lot about who you are. There are too many women who will spend their money on a car (that went down in value the second they drove it off the lot), a new outfit, lounge hopping, expensive vacations, or getting their hair and nails “did.” Understand – that is why you are the size you are, that is why you have the pain you have, that is why you move the way you move.
We’re just an email away if you want to change those values and develop some rituals that will get you closer to the happiness you didn’t even realize was your birthright. That fat loss stuff is actually the easy part.
